Enclosed beats exposed
The display guide's first rule shops this whole page: enclosed cases beat open shelves, for dust, for handling, and for the cat. Glass-front cabinets and domes keep fragile pieces visible and untouched; stands and small display trees put chosen pieces to work between Decembers. Placement rules still apply once the furniture arrives: out of direct sun, away from heat, on something that does not wobble.
Weight before beauty
One judgment call from the care wing matters more than any listing photo: heavy pieces need hardware and shelving rated for them. A kugel-class ornament on a decorative stand built for modern featherweight glass is an accident with a date on it, which is why the kugel drawer and the hardware guide both preach respect for the hanging point. When in doubt, lay the heavy piece down in the case instead of hanging it, and let the light do the work.
